SEASON ONE: A SUCCESS

Netball EFL was just a pipeline idea for a number of years…

2014 was the year that it all changed with the launch of the league’s first ever Netball competition. Played out of Eastern Indoor Sports, Friday nights were buzzing as 12 teams took part in six games per week over the course of the 16 week season.

Games were of a high calibre and intensity was much higher than anticipated as teams jostled for positions throughout the year.

In Season one 10 clubs fielded 12 teams into the inaugural competition with both Boronia and Coldstream able to field two sides. The other eight clubs in year one was: Croydon, Mitcham, Ringwood, East Ringwood, Blackburn, Wantirna South, Norwood and Mooroolbark.
Preliminary
Finals meant that games lifted another notch, a final 6 and the chance for any of those sides to take out the first Netball EFL Premiership.

Boronia Gold was the form side for most of the season, along with new rivals Croydon whom they met in the Grand Final. Boronia were tested early but established control in the second term of the Grand Final and never looked back on route to becoming the inaugural Netball EFL Premiers.

Lisa Baker of East Ringwood was crowned the League’s leading goal Shooter with 464 goals over the season, while Stephanie McNay of Boronia Gold was leaps and bounds ahead and named the best player in the competitions first season taking home the First ever Netball EFL best and Fairest in convincing fashion.

After such a successful first season there has already been plenty of interest in 2015, season 2 of Netball EFL. It is expected some 20 clubs will take part in the second instalment with a number of new clubs aswell as many of our 2014 teams already registering their interest.
