New Balance Netball Weekend Recap

Another big weekend of Netball in the books, take a look at last week’s results across all 13 divisions ahead of tomorrow night’s action on the courts, thanks to New Balance and Belgravia Apparel.

 

Premier Division

Croydon 73 def. Oakleigh District 31

Coldstream Grey 63 def. East Burwood Rams 46

East Ringwood Black 64 def. Croydon North MLOC 32

FTG Eagles 59 def. Vermont Gold 37

 

Croydon was the big standout this weekend, a mammoth 42-point win over Oakleigh District.  Ellarnah Hanlen was a clear standout, 53 goals takes her season tally to 99 in just two weeks of Netball.

 

They game was never in doubt with convinced Croydon leads at all changes. Croydon defenders Brodie Smith and Annabelle Hannah did a great job in keeping Zoe Ryde quiet and keeping the high scoring outfit to just 31 points.

 

Reigning Premiers East Ringwood also back to their best in their first game of the season. Last year’s league best and fairest Emily Salmon starting the season off strongly. She finished as the top scorer on the night with 24 goals, while Claire Salmon played a terrific role in defence.

 

 

Division One

Boronia 41 def. Mitcham Amber 33

East Ringwood 46 def. FTG Eagles 17

Coldstream Black 36 def. Oakleigh District White 20

Heathmont White 36 def. Nunawading Maroon 31

 

Boronia Hawks and Mitcham played off in a high-scoring shoot out with the Hawks 11 goal final quarter enough to take home a victory. The Hawks excelled through the midcourt through the likes of Rebecca Subbiah and Jorjia Cotte.

 

As for the Tigers, Jess Grace was dominant through Goal Shooter and Goal Attack, scoring 24 goals.

 

Heathmont White also continued their early season form with a 5-point victory over Nunawading. Paige Hunter was reliable as ever in front of the goals, 17 for her as Jessica Ashton-Smith top scored with 19, playing as the Goal Shooter.

 

 

Division Two

Knox 50 def. Montrose 22

Park Orchards Black 58 def. Heathmont 21

Vermont White 22 def. Blackburn White 17

Lilydale Gold 37 def. Bayswater Gold 26

 

Park Orchards Black and Knox Falcons put up two of the highest scores of the weekend.

 

The Sharks score 58, defeating the Jets by 37 points. Kiara Matavura couldn’t miss, 41 goals for the night in ten minute quarters.

 

As for the Falcons, Jacqueline Isles was unstoppable, 31 points in a dominant display, well assisted by the side’s midcourt players with great delivery.

 

 

Division Three

 

Montrose Flames 32 def. FTG Eagles White 28

The Basin Cubs 39 def. East Ringwood Teal 21

Norwood 22 def. Chirnside Park Yellow 20

Vermont Purple 33 def. Blackburn Red 25

 

Vermont coming off a premiership in Division Four last season, has their first win of the 2024 season, defeating Blackburn by eight goals. Defensive duo Isabella and Hannah Tuohy were both a key reason in the back court in keeping Blackburn to just 11 points in the second half.

 

Montrose Flames also held on in a tight contest against Ferntree Gully for their second win of the season. Rebecca Hincksman top scored with 27 of the side’s 32 goals while Ferntree Gully finished with an even contribution in front of the goals.

 

 

Division Four

Park Orchards White 31 def. East Burwood Grey 23

The Basin 31 def. UFTG Red 30

Chirnside Park 42 def. Heathmont Yellow 28

Silvan Cats 43 def. Oakleigh District 22

 

The Basin held on for a thrilling one-point victory over Upper Ferntree Gully after a late comeback. They managed to hold on for victory, Melissa Beardsworth finishing with 19 of their 31 goals.

 

Silvan rocketed to the top of the ladder with an eight-point victory over Oakleigh District. The win was set up off a big first quarter performance where the Cats scored 15 goals to 2. It was a particularly even second half but the Cats defensive work through the likes of Emily Ough and Maddalyn Beet played a crucial role in creating that half time buffer.

 

 

Division Five

Vermont Violet 38 def. Norwood Gold 10

Nunawading Gold 40 def. Oakleigh District Silver 23

Lilydale Yellow 29 def. Kilsyth Red 18

GWH Yellow 34 def. Ringwood White 23

 

Last year’s premiers Glen Waverley Hawks celebrated a great victory over Ringwood. This week’s Sportsco Eastland Best on Court went to Bridget Mudge of the Glen Waverley side, 13 goals in their impressive victory.

 

Lilydale Yellow made it two wins in a row with an 11-point victory over Kilsyth at Melba College. Grace Vakulcyzk finished with 18 goals for the night, having plenty of support from teammates Ella Meerkotter and Salena Johnson who rotated through Goal Attack and the midcourt.

 

 

Division Six

Balwyn Tigers 27 def. Montrose Thunder 22

Vermont Lavendar 50 def. Chirnside Park Diamonds 3

Mitcham Gold 24 def. Silvan White 23

Park Orchards Blue 39 def. Rowville Navy 21

 

The Tigers and Cats played off in a thriller at Melba College, just one point separating the two sides at the end of play. Mitcham winning by one point with their defence stepping up in crucial moments of the game. Christine Staios and Emily Orrell were superb in the back court throughout the fourt quarters.

 

A great start to Mitcham’s re-entry into the New Balance Netball competition.

 

Also re-entering the competition this season is Rowville Hawks. Their Rowville Navy side couldn’t make it two in a row on Friday Night as the Sharks won their second game in a row. Chloe North-Coombes couldn’t miss, 29 goals for her.

 

Park Orchards will meet the other 2-0 side in the division, Vermont Lavender, this Friday evening.
