GIRLS FOOTY A REALITY IN 2015

The Eastern Football League has enjoyed a strong response from clubs in regards to Girls EFL in 2015.

In 2015, two divisions will be offered for girls interested in playing footy.  Under 12’s will provide an introduction to the game for primary school aged girls, whilst our under 16’s competition will give older girls a chance to play in an organised competition with girls their own age.

The league is developing a long term strategy to introduce a Youth girl’s competition in the near future.

The EFL has made Girls Football a significant focus for 2015, ensuring that EFL clubs with girl’s sides are playing in Eastern Football League competitions.

Creating a competition that makes girls want to be involved in Australian Rules football is key over the next few years, EFL Game Development Manager Aaron Bailey stating:

“Girls aged 9 -15 who love the game and have an interest in playing the game now will have an avenue to compete in a viable competition, for clubs in their area.”

Bailey is excited about the potential of the girl’s competition in the Eastern Suburbs.

At this stage we have six clubs at Under 12 level as well as six sides in the Under 16 age group that have indicated they intend to have sides in 2015. Even more promising, several other clubs have expressed interest in entering a side in each age group and we are working with those clubs to support introduction of sides in 2015,” Bailey Said.

If you think that the girl’s will be taking it lightly, think again, Girls EFL in both age groups will run just like any of the leagues other junior competitions.

The girls will compete for premiership points, have the opportunity to be recognised in best and fairest and most importantly compete for a premiership. Though there will be some modification of rules, key aspects of the game remain,” Bailey commented.

He continued; “We are conscious of providing a competition that offers every girl the opportunity to play the game and develop as a football to the best of their ability.”

Clubs who are interested in having a side in the Under 12 and/or Under 16 age group for 2015 should contact Game Development Manager Aaron Bailey on 9762 5766 or abailey@efnl.org.au.
