Deakin University Women’s Divisional Structure

The Eastern Football Netball League has finalised the fixtures for all six divisions of Deakin University Senior Women’s Football for 2022, after giving clubs as much as time as possible to build up and nominate teams for the upcoming season.

The Senior Women’s competition continues to grow, despite the challenges posed to EFNL clubs and the league by COVID-19 over the past two years, with two extra divisions added in 2022 and seven new EFNL sides.

The original fixtures for Premier, Premier B and Division One that were released in late 2021 have been changed, with the divisional make-ups requiring alteration due to the withdrawal of one team from each Division.

League newcomers Eastern Devils will be one of the five sides to contest the Premier Division along with Outer East FNL side Mount Evelyn, SBL Wolves, South Croydon, and Vermont, whilst Boronia, Donvale, Ferntree Gully, The Basin, and Whitehorse will go head-to-head in Premier B.

One ‘Crossover’ game will be played each weekend between sides in either division, avoiding a bye, and providing the clubs and the league an opportunity to see how some sides fare against the top tier of Women’s community football, with an eye to a more populated Premier division in future seasons.

Sides will take the results of these ‘crossover’ games to their own divisional ladders and despite playing against the other division, the competitions will have separate ladders and finals series’.

Chirnside Park will play in Division One, alongside Beaconsfield, Blackburn, North Ringwood, Park Orchards, 2021 Division Two Minor Premier Ringwood, and Rowville, whilst East Ringwood, Heathmont, Kilsyth, Knox, Montrose, and Surrey Park will compete in Division Two.

Division Three sees the emergence of four entirely new sides, with East Burwood, Mitcham, Mooroolbark, and Nunawading all fielding Senior Women’s sides for the first time (Mooroolbark do field a side in the Women’s Masters).

They will play against Coldstream, Croydon North MLOC and Fairpark, whilst the second sides of Boronia, Eastern Devils, SBL Wolves, South Croydon, The Basin, and Vermont will make up Division Four.
