Glen Waverley Rovers Junior Football Club president Paul Van Suylen spoke to EFL Media ahead of season 2018, all thanks to Yarra Valley Water and Choose Tap.
Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2017?
Paul Van Suylen: We were very satisfied with what our club was able to achieve in 2017, most notably, the introduction of two girls football teams for the first time in the club’s history. On the field, our under-11s team won the premiership and our under-16s made the finals in their first season together.
Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2018?
PVS: We expect to field approximately 15 teams in 2018.
What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?
PVS: There’s been a really positive atmosphere around the club over the pre-season so far. Our older age groups (Under 15 & Under 17 boys) have been training since before Christmas, and are reaping the benefits of the hard work they’ve been putting in.
If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?
PVS: Ultimately it will depend on grading. We are interested in seeing how our under-12 team will go this year after winning the premiership last year in under-11s.
Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?
PVS: We’re looking for players to top up our existing under-11 and under-14 teams as well as our girls teams in under-12s, 14s, 16s and 18s.
