Chirnside Park Junior Football Club secretary Cam Baxter spoke to EFL Media ahead of season 2018, all thanks to Yarra Valley Water and Choose Tap.

The Panthers yesterday appointed its new under-18 girls coach, Sam Welsh.

Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2017?

Cam Baxter: Yes, in 2017 we had a major recruitment drive through local schools and kinders and we recruited 65 new players to the club, which was very satisfying as we had a few teams where numbers were low.

On-field we had success with under-11s and 17s making finals and 15s and girls 18s making finals.

Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2018?

CB: Nine.

What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?

CB: Quite positive. Pre-season has commenced and team numbers are looking solid. We have a number of new recruits to our under-9s and under-18 girls which is great.

If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?

CB: Too early to tell. Our under-14s (up from 13s) should improve and our under-12s will be pushing to go back to back. Under-15s depending on grading will be a finals team we think.

Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?

CB: No, we are looking solid across all groups. We mainly need 3-4 in most age groups to have a full squad.

If any players are interested in playing for Chirnside Park this season, what do they have to do?

CB: Head to our Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/ChirnsideParkJuniorFootballClub or email the club – junioradmin@chirnsidefc.com
