Bayswater Junior Football Club president Mick Walker spoke to EFL Media ahead of season 2018, all thanks to Yarra Valley Water and Choose Tap.

Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2017?

Mick Walker: Season 2017 was a step up for a couple of our teams, having been graded up due to successful 2016 results. These teams played with courage and determination, finishing the season strongly. We continued to build on our established girls teams, while building up our younger age groups with a healthy under-8 side.  2017 also had the club provide a range of educational programs to further our players development off the field.

Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2018?

MW: In season 2018, we will field 10 teams, including our three girls teams.

What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?

MW: Off field, we continued work on setting up an even stronger network of support to our members. This process has resulted in an experienced committee of 20 dedicated volunteers. With the reappointment of some long serving coaches who have developed teams to make regular finals, plus our exciting new coaches with a fresh outlook, 2018 is feeling very positive. This season also sees the introduction of Auskick at the club, so exciting times are ahead.

If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?

MW: Our under-13s have some great numbers and have been training well. A very dedicated group, so look forward to seeing them play this year.

Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?

MW: Our under-17 group are regular finals players, committed to their football and club. We have room for players to join this team and be coached by many years of experience. If players wish to further their football beyond juniors, an established pathway is available to quality senior football at Bayswater.

If any players are interested in playing for Bayswater this season, what do they have to do?

MW: Get in contact with us for season 2018. New players always welcome.
