UMPIRING IN THE EASTERN FOOTBALL NETBALL LEAGUE IN 2020
The Eastern Football Netball League (EFNL) is the largest Australian rules football competition in Australia. The EFNL is made up of 45 senior clubs playing five senior grades, junior boys & girls competitions with ages from under-8s to under-18s and the League is anticipating four divisions of female football in season 2020. The competition reaches from Balwyn in the west to Coldstream in the east and from Noble Park in the south to Warrandyte in the north.
EFNL FOOTBALL – MORE THAN A GAME
The club provides a source of local pride, meaning and relevance. The club is a meeting place and provides a venue for fun and entertainment. It teaches family and community values. It provides a continuity of tradition, history and a sense of belonging. It teaches specific skills and in turn self -esteem and worth among individuals. It promotes participation which in turn promotes health and fitness.

At the EFNL, we are committed to the continual development and recruitment of umpires at both junior and senior levels.
The EFNL’s Umpiring Manager, Scott Van Noordennen, is a coach/manager with overs 19 years’ experience in coaching & developing umpires. He is passionate about the development of community sport and particularly strong values around club. He joined the EFNL at the beginning of the 2016 season.
DEVELOPMENT
The EFNL has established strong development pathway programs. These programs allow umpires to grow in their umpiring by providing the necessary steps to develop their skills in their umpiring journey through both theory & practical training.
The EFNL conducts programs that help umpires to not only make the right decisions but to cope with the match day environment. We manage a talent development pathway that can progress umpires from under-8 competitions to introduction to elite squads.
EX-PLAYERS TRANSITIONING TO UMPIRING
Over recent years, the EFNL has recruited many retired players to umpiring. They have found the transition to umpiring both enjoyable and satisfying. Staying involved in the game was their priority and in becoming an umpire they remain involved on field and in the action without the hits and bumps.
REMUNERATION $$$$
Umpires are paid monthly through an automatic bank transfer.
Uniform and association fees can be automatically deducted from the umpire’s match payments.
Pay rates vary from senior football to junior football and corresponding disciplines. Umpires who show a commitment and appropriate skill level in their umpiring discipline can gain selection in the finals series which sees a bonus match payment paid on top of their normal match fee.
