WOMEN’S PREMIER DIVISION:

South Croydon Blue vs Blackburn Black: South Croydon Blue challenged the undefeated Blackburn Black but were pipped by five points at Cheong Park on the weekend.

It was a slow start from South Croydon Blue as they were outscored in the opening quarter, three goals to one. However, this did not faze the Dogs, as in the second term they kicked four goals while restricting Blackburn Black to a point. In the second half, Blackburn Black showed South Croydon Blue why they are the premier team of Premier Division keeping them to three points while scoring three goals and two behinds. Blackburn Black’s Chloe O’Malley (two goals) and Serena Kuo (two goals) combined with four goals. Meanwhile, South Croydon Blue’s Jaimee Field was her side’s only multiple goal kicker with two and Brooke Curren was South Croydon Blue’s BOG.

Chirnside Park Black vs Vermont: Since returning from lockdown, Chirnside Park Black have lost three in a row and this time they went down to Vermont by 11-points at Kimberley Reserve. The scores were level at 15 at the main break and in the second half Vermont came out with greater flair and intensity nailing through the only two majors of the half and kept Chirnside to five points. Chirnside’s inaccuracy in front of goal let them down, as they recorded 2.8.20, if they kicked accurately the result could have been a lot different. Leah Oswald and Bridget O’Connell were Chirnside’s only two goal scorers and O’Connell was Chirnside’s best. Vermont’s Evie Allman was pivotal with two majors, and she currently has 23 goals for the season, while Marissa Lee was adjudged best afield for Vermont.

DIVISION ONE WOMEN’S:

Park Orchards vs Rowville: Park Orchards thumped Rowville by 34-points at Domeney Reserve. Both teams defences were important with both teams held scoreless in the second and third quarters. It was in the final term, where Park Orchards took their game up a notch and booted through 3.10 to Rowville’s 1.2. For Park Orchards, it was a huge last quarter and fortunately for Rowville they did not have their kicking boots on because if Park Orchards did, they would have lost by a greater margin. Park Orchard’s goal scorers were Penny Bowman and Monique Trussler with two goals each, while Jacky Hoser was Park Orchard’s best. Meanwhile, Rowville’s Claudia Jones and Brianna Donnelly scored a goal apiece.

Berwick vs Boronia Brown: Berwick are back on the winners list with a 29-point victory over Boronia Brown at Edwin Flack Reserve. It was a fine performance from Berwick, as they restricted Boronia Brown to four points for the match. Courtney De Kroon was in the thick of it for Berwick scoring three goals and Lindsay Tucker was Berwick’s BOG.

Ferntree Gully vs SBL Wolves: Ferntree Gully secured a 10-point win over SBL Wolves at Wally Tew Reserve. The match for Ferntree Gully was won in the opening half with Ferntree Gully keeping SBL Wolves to three points. SBL Wolves turned around their form in the second half and outscored Ferntree Gully four goals to three, but it was too much of a deficit to overcome with them playing catch up football in the second half. Ferntree Gully’s Lisa Walshe (three goals) and Amy McCormack (three goals and Ferntree Gully’s BOG) combined with six majors. SBL Wolves had four individual goal scorers including Olivia Flanagan, Nicole Cormack, Christie-Lee Chadwick and Paige Tocci.

East Ringwood vs Whitehorse Suns: Whitehorse Suns thrashed East Ringwood to the tune of 61-points at East Ringwood Reserve. It was a completely one-sided contest in favour of Whitehorse Suns with them scoring 12 goals to East Ringwood’s three. Goal kickers for East Ringwood were Candice Taylor with two and Stephanie McNamara with one, while Jacinta Shephard was East Ringwood’s best.

The Basin vs North Ringwood: Maddison Southam guided The Basin to a 76-point triumph over North Ringwood at Batterham Reserve. Southam nailed through two goals and was named her sides BOG. Julia Baker was a force up forward for The Basin continuing her stellar season form with four goals and she now has 28 goals for the season. It was a mighty performance from The Basin’s defence to keep North Ringwood goalless and only allowed three behinds to be registered.

DIVISION TWO WOMEN’S:

Ringwood vs Kilsyth: Ringwood remain unbeaten with a 46-point win over Kilsyth at Jubilee Park. Kilsyth were no match for Ringwood only managing a goal for the match and could not stop Ringwood’s attack. Ringwood registered 7.13 and the forward duo who were centre of the show were Georgia Fairbairn (three goals) and Zoe Cant (two goals). Meanwhile, Grace Ward was Ringwood’s BOG. Kilsyth’s only goal scorer was Alicia Carr.

Surrey Park vs Knox: A strong final quarter from Knox propelled them over the line against Surrey Park by 15-points at Surrey Park Reserve. It was only one point the difference at every change in the first three quarters, but in the last term Knox took their game to another level firing 2.5 and kept Surrey Park to three points to secure their third victory of the season.

Heathmont vs Montrose: Montrose overcame Heathmont by seven points at HE Parker Reserve to close the gap on the Jets, who remain third despite having a negative win-loss record.

DIVISION THREE WOMEN’S:

Boronia Gold vs Blackburn Red: Blackburn Red were too classy for Boronia Gold smashing them by 99-points at Morton Park. Blackburn Red’s goal kicking was inaccurate with 12.28 and this was one saving grace for Boronia Gold, because if Blackburn Red were accurate Boronia Gold might have loss by 150+. Shannon McDonald and Jade Finter contributed two goals each. Boronia Gold’s best player was Kristyn King.

Croydon North MLOC vs FairPark: Croydon North MLOC proved too strong for FairPark, winning by 37-points at Hughes Park. It was a huge four quarter display from Croydon North, especially in the opening half where they kept Fair Park goalless and then in the second half, they only allowed them to score two goals. An impressive defensive effort from Croydon North. Hailee Stokes had a morning to remember for Croydon North producing four goals and Roxanne Calleja was Croydon North’s best. FairPark’s two majors were scored via Libby McNay and Bayley Harding-Smith. Kahlia Sommers was FairPark’s BOG.

Chirnside Park Gold vs South Croydon Red: Chirnside Park Gold crushed South Croydon Red by 57-points at Cheong Park. It was a dominant forward performance from Chirnside Park Gold’s forwards including Rachael Palmer, Meghan Stephens and Emma Lewis who all kicked two goals each. South Croydon Red’s defence were kept on their toes all morning and found it hard to put a halt to Chirnside’s formidable attacking show. Chirnside’s best was Erin Sneath. South Croydon Red’s goal scorers included Leah Mallison and Juley Thai, while Cassandra Godwin was awarded South Croydon Red’s best player.
