Bendigo Bank Netball Review

Another massive weekend of results in the EFNL Netball league with Round Six now in the books.

Premier Division

Boronia Hawks 62 d East Burwood 41

The Hawks continued their early season dominance with another commanding victory in a top of the table clash against East Burwood. They defeated the Rams by 21 goals after setting the tone early, more than doubling their opponents score at Half Time.

To the Rams credit, they fought back in the second half, outscoring the Hawks by five goals with their goals evenly spread between Hanlen, Mulqueen and Williams.

Boronia still remain undefeated at the top of the ladder, now two games clear of East Burwood who finish the round with a 4-2 season record.

Division 1

East Burwood Grey 41 d Ferntree Gully 31

The Rams have moved into second position on the ladder after a strong 10 goal victory over the Eagles. Danika Corless led the way scoring 26 goals, her most in a match this season. Goalkeeper Maggie O’Shannassy played an important defensive role for the Rams helping keep the Eagles to just 31 goals, earning herself the Netballer of the Week award.

The win may be crucial in the context of their season as they replace the Eagles in second position on the ladder at the end of the round.

Division 2

Warrandyte Swans 37 d Scoresby Magpies 30

After holding off the determined Magpies, the Swans recorded their fifth win of the season to retain their position on top of the ladder. Warrandyte held a four-goal lead at every change before they were able to break away in the final quarter to secure the victory.

Swans goal shooters, Halle Hupfield and Jessica Rodwell continued to improve with both girls registering season high scores. Jessica Ford was a standout for Scoresby in an honourable loss, scoring 25 of the team’s 30 goals.

Division 3

Knox Red 26 d Heathmont White 25

A back-and-forth tussle between Knox and Heathmont was the highlight of the round for Division 3. It was Knox who finished victorious, holding on for a one goal win after the lead changed at every break. With just seven players available for the match, the Falcons managed to run out the game well to win their third match of the season.

Brianna Wolski finished the game with 18 goals for Knox while Heathmont’s Haley Melenhorst also scored 18 for the Jets.

Silvan Cats 28 d Park Orchards Black 27

The Cats held on to secure their third win of the season as they defeated the Sharks by just one goal. Janelle Hartman top scored for Silvan, managing to notch up 16 goals for the third straight week. It’s an important victory for the Cats as they keep themselves in the hunt for a finals position, now equal with the Sharks on season goals.

Park Orchards scoring was well divided as they rotated through their goal shooters with five players hitting the scoreboard. Overall, the Sharks now have nine players on their list to have scored a goal this season.

Montrose Devils 38 d South Belgrave Red 25

The Montrose Devils gave up an early lead to South Belgrave at quarter time before a dominant 10-2 goal second quarter that set up a 13 goal victory. A win made even more impressive with Montrose not having anyone on the bench for rotations at the breaks.

Emily Fahey led the way with another 27-goal performance, taking her season tally to 107 from just four matches. Fahey also had plenty of help inside the goal circle from Erin Hansen who scored double figures for the first time this year.

A vital win for the Devils that keeps their season alive before they take on the undefeated Waverley Blues next Friday Night.

Mitcham Tigers Black 22 d Montrose Storm 21

Despite being placed at different ends of the ladder, the Tigers and Storm played out one of the games of the round. Montrose Storm fought hard all night in a close battle with the undefeated Mitcham Tigers but fell short by just one goal. An extra two goals in the first quarter for the Tigers appeared to be the difference with Montrose outscoring the ladder-leaders in the following three quarters.

Makayla Mitchell led the scoring for the undefeated Tigers with 14 goals while Jessica Repalust and Georgia Douglas shared the rest of the workload with 5 and 4 goals respectively.

East Burwood White 24 d Montrose Heat 13

The Rams were impressive on Friday Night, defeating ladder leaders, Montrose by eleven goals to win their second match of the season. Jasmin Moya starred for East Burwood scoring 14 of their 24 goals. It was overall a very impressive defensive performance by the Rams who kept Montrose to their lowest score this season. The defence also manged to limit Nicole Windley to just nine goals after the Montrose scorer recorded double digits in the last three matches, she played in.
