2014 EFL Pre-Season Wiki | Tomorrow: East Burwood

RINGWOOD Junior Football Club president David Wadley speaks to Ben Waterworth as his club prepares for the 2014 season.

Ben Waterworth: Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2013?

David Wadley: We thought we were pretty good. We had two standalone teams and two combined teams with Bayswater.

One standalone team [Under 15’s] made the Grand Final and won it. Out of that team we had two finish in the top three of the league Best and Fairest. Our Under 11’s struggled with younger aged kids, but we had a kid finish in the top three of the comp B and F. Our Under 13’s combined team made the prelim and one of our Under 12’s finished top 10 in the comp B and F.

For a small club, we certainly still get plenty out of it.

Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2014?

Four or five. Our Under 17’s are definite and I reckon we’ll get teams in the Under 8’s, 9’s, 11’s and 12’s.

What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?

Very positive. But it’s same as every year, we’ll still have lots of questions whether we can get sides up or not. And we won’t be able to answer that until kids register.

If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?

The 17’s will be up there again, however they’ll be bottom-aged. They’re training well now. They’ve lost some and picked up some. This year will be a really good challenge for the boys. We’re not talking back-to-back, but we’re certainly not talking relegation.

Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?

We’re happy to have any kid who wants to kick a footy. They’ll always get a fair go.

Throughout March, we’ll be having someone from the club down at Jubilee every Tuesday and Thursday night to register any players and take enquiries.

If any players are interested in playing for the Ringwood Junior Football Club this season, what do they have to do?
