Bendigo Bank – Netball Week One Results

 

Netball is officially back and ahead of tonight’s Round Two clashes, take a quick look at last week’s results before tonight’s action.

 

Division One

East Ringwood Black 57 def. Knox Falcons 24

Lilydale Falcons 43 lost to Croydon 71

East Burwood Rams 65 def. Bayswater Gold 34

Last year’s Premiers, East Ringwood started the season with a big win out at Waverley in the opening round, defeating Knox by 33 points. Salmon starred with 30 goals as the Roos led comfortably by double digits at each break

 

The two East Burwood Division One clubs had big opening round wins, proving the club will be another big challenger in 2023. East Burwood Black scoresd a massive 75 points for the game, defeating Vermont by 37 points. Ella Tweedale had 41 goals in the big win while defensively, the side kept the Eagles to just 14 points in the second half.

 

The East Burwood Rams also were dominant on the court with 65 points as they defeated Bayswater, Rylee Hamilton topping the list with 42 goals. Nicole Wong was fantastic, earning herself the Eastland Bevilles Netballer of the Week. Through her vision and feeds, Wong played with great speed and fantastic positioning, playing a big part of why the side was able to score so heavily with her connection with the goal shooters.

 

The two East Burwood teams are set to meet tonight in what should be a great contest.

 

The other big winner in the division was Croydon, 71 points against Lilydale’s 43 proving they’ll be tough to beat this year. Genevieve Abbott led the goal shooters for the entire competition with 48 goals. Annie Hannah also continued her good form alongside Hayley O’Neill, coming across from Vermont.

One of the games of the round for the top two divisions saw Coldstream hold off a fast-finishing Vermont side to win their opening round fixture. The win was set up off the back of a dominant second quarter that saw Coldstream keep Vermont to just six points. Jessica Ford topped scored with 28 goals for the Cougars in a great night for the club.

 

Blackburn’s Lillie Allen led the goal shooting for the division with 31 goals from the side’s dominant win over Vermont Eagles Violet side. A fantastic achievement for the club, with their return to the Bendigo Bank Netball competition.

 

Division Three

Boronia’s nine goal last quarter saw the side hold on by four points in a win over Montrose. The Demons led for majority of the game, a three-point lead at Half Time before scores were levelled at the final break. Georgie Smith top scored for Boronia with 22 goals.

 

Both Nunawading and Lilydale also had big wins in Division Three with the Bek Breukers top scoring with 28 goals herself. After a tight first half with Heathmont, the Lions outscored their opponents to 20 to 14 in the second half to win by 8 points.

Norwood returned to Netball competition, having three teams playing in the league this season. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to get a win on the board but they’ll be looking forward to bouncing back tonight.

 

Montrose had a big night with multiple teams having wins, that included their Division Seven side that defeated Nunawading by 23 points. Tamara Hutson had a strong performance, scoring 28 out of the Thunder’s 37 goals.
