NUMBER 8 – DONCASTER EAST v WANTIRNA SOUTH

Division 2, Round 10 – Zerbes Reserve

Mixed starts to the 2016 season for both Doncaster East and Wantirna South.

The Lions looked out of sorts in the early rounds conceding 50 scoring shots twice in their first three games before gaining momentum with consecutive victories. The Devils headed into the Round 10 clash with a 50% record.

Wantirna South, plagued by inaccuracy in the early part of the season hoped that straightening things up going forward would result in a change of fortunes. A 2.7 score line at the first change did them no favours. All the momentum in the first half and a 23-point lead into the main break for the Devils, the lead favourable the score line still not so much, The Devils spraying chances to be 5.17 at the main break.

In a complete role reversal the Devils gave up six goals in the third as the margin was cut back to just 15 points. The rest was one of the better performances from the Lions during the 2016 season as they booted 13 second half goals to 1 to continue to push their top 2 hopes.

Ben Warren-Smith, Dyson Baker alongside Ray Baird and Wayne Brasher call this gem of a contest.
