THE Nunawading Football Club has unveiled its ‘titanic’, freshened look ahead of the 2014 season.
The club has undergone significant on and off-field change since the end of its 2013 campaign as it prepares to embark on a new frontier.
A new committee has been elected, which will be led by president Evan Sofianos and secretary Adrian Lieschke.
As part of the off-field change, the committee has decided to introduce a momentous new brand.
Formally known as one of four Lions in the EFL, the club’s nickname has been changed to the ‘Titans’.
The nickname change also accompanies an alteration in club colours, which are now black, white and steel.
While Sofianos admits some have questioned the reason for change, the majority of Nunawading’s members embrace the new look and support the move going forward.
“The committee believes the change and rebrand will create new relationships within the community and attract new players, members and sponsors to join the club, making it a success on and off the field,” he said.
“Some think we’ve come in and taken over the club or invaded it. That’s not the case. That’s not what this is about.
“We definitely didn’t come here to blend in. We want to stand out. In doing so, you ruffle a few feathers along the way, but ultimately everything is done with the vision of getting this club back on track.
“The rebrand will encourage the sale of new merchandise, which will bring new revenue and much needed funds to the club. The club also plans to develop juniors, as well as work with and give back to certain community groups.”
There has also been noteworthy on-field change during the off-season.
New senior coaches have been appointed, with Rob Kreskas and Tony Rowe to share the duties in 2014. Stephen Christofakakis has also been appointed as a senior assistant coach.
Kreskas, who coached the Eastern Lions in 2013, will have a playing-coach role, while Rowe, who coached Coldstream’s reserves side this year, will analyse and instruct from the interchange bench. Christofakis comes across from East Burwood, bringing Division 1 experience with him.
Sofianos says there is a great dynamic to the club’s coaching panel and is confident the co-coaching appointment will pay long-term dividends.
“Rob has enormous drive and determination, as well as a good footy head, while Tony is more than capable of running our match day duties. Stephen brings a fresh, young energy to the group,” Sofianos said.
While the personnel change has occurred swiftly and suddenly, Sofianos believes now is the ideal time to jump on the Titans’ bandwagon for players and supporters.
“A new beginning brings a positive and exciting transition to the club,” he said.
“The Titan resembles an incredible strength and will become the heart and soul of the club.
“Join us and let’s achieve success together.”
