WE have come to expect great things from Jeff Gobbels, and today in the Division 1 ‘Choose Tap’ Grand Final he certainly delivered, kicking what could be the goal of the season.

It was the truly spectacular moment in today’s game that left everyone in awe.

That one goal kicked by Gobbels helped to determine the outcome of the game and spurred the Tigers onto victory.

It all began unassumingly at the end of the second quarter. Gobbels marked the ball outside 50 at the left half-forward flank. He was about to pass it off when the half-time siren rang.

Suddenly the pressure was on to produce something. All eyes were on him.

He aimed it at the goals and fired a torpedo punt off the boot that would have made NFL punters proud.

What a kick it was!

The ball flew up into the air and soared over the Bayswater Oval crowd.

As it came towards the posts, all you had to do was see the look of joy and excitement in Gobbels’ face to know that it had made it through safely.

Clapping and cheering followed from everyone at Bayswater Oval. Even the Noble Park faithful were impressed.

‘I was pretty lucky, because I was about to pass it and I sort of slipped and then the siren went. I thought I may as well have a crack at it, there was no reason not to,’ Gobbels said.

‘Thank God it went through.’

The 28-year-old is an integral part of the Balwyn Football Club.

He is without a doubt the best centre half-forward in the league, always playing with poise and style.

Gobbels kicked two goals for the game, bringing his season tally up to 52.

His skill and precision earned him the Cliff Tomkins Medal in the 2012 Division 1 Grand Final. And he backed that up with another spectacular game today.

‘It’s awesome to win premierships, but if you play well in them, I don’t think you can get a better feeling.’

‘It’s so good to win another premiership with this great group of lads. They’re awesome guys,’ he said
