VALE SIMON MINSON

A great friend of the Heathmont Football Club, Simon Minson, sadly passed away on September 1 in Bangkok.

‘Simmo’ fell ill on a trip to Vietnam with mates from his school days at Vermont Secondary College, his condition deteriorated and his Mum and Dad flew over to be with their son. Over the weekend Simon had been transferred to Bangkok by medivac so that his request for no medical action would be met.

22 years old, Simon started playing football at the Jets Juniors in the Under 13’s and then moved to the Senior Club playing in the Colts and Reserves. When he wasn’t playing, he was the first to put up his hand to help out wherever possible.

The Heathmont Football Club has not and will not see a stronger person come through its doors. Simon had Cystic Fibrosis a condition he never let get in the way of living life to the fullest.

Our sincere condolences go out Simon’s family, his friends, club members and team mates. The thoughts of the board and staff of the EFL are no doubt shared by the wider EFL community.

The Club will be holding a fundraising day to support the Minson Family and the travel costs involved. Details below:

The Heathmont Football Club is asking for donations of goods and services that we can auction at a fundraising event on Friday September 12 at HE Parker reserve clubrooms at 7pm. Entry to the night will be $25.00 and all money raised on the night will go to the Minson family.

If you can’t attend on the 12th you can donate on this link https://www.mycause.com.au/page/82022/simonminson

Update: It has now come to light that due to the condition, Simon was unable to gain Travel Insurance. His family will incur medical, hospital and travel costs in excess of $100,000 the Heathmont Football Club is asking anyone who possibly can to help out the Minson family at their time of need.

Heather, Mark and Sarah are dealing with the tragic passing of Simon in Bangkok, what we can do in Australia is work together, raise the funds so that they do not have to worry about the financial costs that they will have to meet.

Please if you read this and know of any business or contacts that would assist in our fundraising, please pass this information on, don’t act on it later, do it now, because we can all make a difference.
