Upper Ferntree Gully Women’s Coach Announced

Peter Weston returns to Upper Ferntree Gully FC (he coached our U19 side in 2014) with 25 years of coaching experience including premierships at Boronia and more recently Ferntree Gully.

His experience spans from coaching junior football to all levels of senior mens’ football including a stint as head coach with Dalyston in the Alberton Football League.

In 2019, Peter turned his focus to Women’s footy taking the Senior group at Ferntree Gully to a preliminary final in their inception year. Last Season, he coached yet another start up Senior Women’s team at Montrose.

His coaching philosophies are simple and highly aligned with what we are looking for at UFTG.

“The more we enjoy a sport, the better we tend to perform so I like to catch my players doing something right rather than something wrong. I am certainly not a scoreboard coach but would much prefer to focus on player improvement and structures”

Peter has spent the past 30 years in the TV and Video production industry so naturally, video plays a huge part in his coaching process.

“It’s a fantastic way for players to learn and really fast tracks improvement in game knowledge and skills”

“One of the highlights for me after 2 years of Women’s football is how netballers and basketballers, in fact, all first year players, are blown away with the team inclusiveness, skill development and absolute love they grow for the game of footy”
