TAKING THE NEXT STEP

Every year a number of EFL players take the challenge of progressing through the ranks and taking up a position at a VFL club.

The increased standard and commitment as well as the benefit of playing at the highest level in the state is a draw card that not many who are worthy will turn down. In 2016, 12 players will join VFL lists in the hope that they can further develop their careers – thanks to AFL Victoria and our friends at the VFL here is a list of the EFL alumni heading to the VFL in season 2016.

Box Hill Hawks: Dale Hehir (Scoresby), Liam Cox (South Croydon) and Connor O’Sullivan (Norwood)

Casey Scorpions: Aaron Cotte (St Simons/ Knox) and Oscar McInerney (Montrose)

Coburg: Kyle Staples (Vermont)

Port Melbourne: Jarrad Smith (Heathmont), Aaron Fenton (North Ringwood), Jayden Wilson (Lilydale), Ben Gilling (Mulgrave), Jarrod Matheson (Balwyn), Andrew Walker (Glen Waverley Rovers)

For every player heading to the VFL there are players coming back to the Eastern Football League or coming into the league for the first time. A number of clubs have signed VFL players for the upcoming season: Mitcham: Tom Miles (Coburg)

Mulgrave: Seb Henderson (Port Melbourne)

Noble Park: Will Petropoulos and Mitch Gent (Casey Scorpions)

South Croydon: Myles Sewell (North Ballarat)
