Wantirna South join the 1000 EFNL games club this weekend against Lilydale.

The club joined the then EDFL in 1965 from the Mountain District Football Association having secured a B grade flag in 1958; and previously were part of the Croydon-Ferntree Gully Football League from inception as a club in 1952-1956.

Wantirna South took 24 years to make a finals series with multiple wooden spoons to show during that period.  However the club turned this around as they rose from Division 4 in 1996 to Division 1 in 2005.  They added another two flags in 2008 and 2014. From 1994-2016 the club participated in 11 finals series for five Premierships and three runners-up.

Wanny South’s most played opponents are Rowville (59), Nunawading (45) and Doncaster East and Mooroolbark (both 43).

Their best winning ratio (at least 10 games played) is against Ringwood with 10 wins from 12 matches.  Surprisingly they have only managed to beat Lilydale three times in 31 attempts.
