REDBACKS’ INTERNATIONAL INCLUSION

When Sameet Singh ventured down under in 2015, cricket was the first thing on his mind. Fast forward four years and football has taken the 23-year-old.

Playing two seasons with Mount Waverley followed by his most recent stint with East Ringwood, the all-rounder has now found himself engrained in the Australian winter pastime.

Pulling on the boots for the first-time last season, Singh will play his first senior game just 12 months after playing his first ever game, today as Ringwood take on Mulgrave in an important Division 2 encounter.

In just 12 games of football, the English national has made waves at the Redbacks, In his four games Singh has been named in the best three times throwing his magnet on the board of Senior Coach Brett Rowe.

Ringwood president Jake Keogh is buoyed by Singh’s development and suggests that he has well and truly earnt his spot.

“Being a 2nd division competitive club, this isn’t just a token gesture as he can play,” Keogh said.

“He was born in England and has only been in Australia for three years. He came over as a cricketer and last year played some footy games at the club.”

Keogh has been impressed with just how quickly Singh has engaged with the club and with the game as a whole.

“It’s a great story for the game and for local footy that someone who has only lived in this country for a few years and played less than a dozen games can be a senior footballer, having picked up the game in his 20s,” he said.

Ringwood will host Mulgrave today in what looms as a must-win game for both sides who have to date only managed one win for the season to date in Division 2.
