The Role
The Head of Umpiring is responsible for the management of all aspects of umpiring within the League.
The role requires a willingness to establish and maintain strong lines of communication with clubs and other stakeholders.
The Head of Umpiring is someone who leads with integrity and has the ability to maintain and advance the EFNL’s reputation as one of the leading community sporting organisations in Australia.
Essential Job Functions
Manage the recruitment and retention of all umpires in the EFNL.
Develop a planned introduction to umpiring for all new umpires to ensure that early experiences in umpiring are positive.
Appoint and manage all coaches for each umpire discipline.
Develop coaching and development pathway programs to enhance the standard of umpiring in the EFNL.
Liaise with club coaches.
Oversee the appointments of umpires for games conducted by the EFNL.
Work with the Eastern Umpires Association to protect the welfare of EFNL umpires.
Manage the evaluation and assessment of umpires to better monitor performance and to ensure umpires are focussed on key areas for improvement.
Work with coaches to ensure that rules and league interpretations are understood and accepted.
Establish an environment amongst the umpiring group that encourages umpires to meet their aspirations.
Obtain and implement coaching resources and initiatives from the AFL and AFL Victoria.
Accountabilities
Ensure umpiring appointments for all matches conducted by the EFNL.
Establish a talent pool across all disciplines that meet appointment’s requirements.
Delivery of documented League umpire development program.
Manage the League’s umpiring coaching and training staff effectively and within budget.
Targets for formal accreditation qualifications are achieved by umpires.
Requirements
Demonstrated strategy, analysis and leadership skills.
Highly-developed verbal and written communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
Developed IT skills.
Proven ability to show initiative, plan, set priorities and manage change.
A preparedness to work extended hours including after-hours meetings and weekends during the football season.
Minimum level one umpire coach accreditation or participation in umpire coach professional development program.

The EFNL promotes and facilitates the playing and development of football and netball for the benefit of all participants at all levels throughout the eastern region of metropolitan Melbourne.
The EFNL is the largest Australian football/netball competition in Australia. Boasting 48 clubs & 674 teams (boys, girls, men’s & women’s). The EFNL also has a netball competition that includes 83 netball teams.
Approximately 50,000 people are directly involved with the League each week.
