2016 Bendigo Bank Lightning Premiership Over the past two weeks more than 1500 kids converged on Pinks Reserve, Kilsyth for the 2016 Under 9 and Under 10 Lightning Premierships.
Playing in non-competitive age groups the Lightning Premiership is the one chance for the season for players to play for a trophy. The equation is simple, four games over the course of the day, win all four and be crowned Lightning premiers for that year. In season 2016 the EFL crowned six premiers in both age groups with the following clubs taking home the trophy:
Under 9’s Blackburn White Glen Waverley Rovers Mitcham Yellow Norwood Purple Waverley Blues Red Lysterfield Grey Under 10’s Blackburn Glen Waverley Hawks Mitcham The Basin Wantirna South Waverley Blues
Two days of football played in great spirits by the next generation of stars in the Eastern Football League, whether it be in the blazing Sunshine of the Under 10’s on ANZAC Day weekend, or the cold and wet of last Sunday’s Under 9’s the kids have a ball and compete their hardest in every game.
For parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles the day is filled with activity with plenty to keep everyone entertained. Players are kept occupied in the makeshift tent city where each club spends its downtime, even spending time with opposition players before they head out onto the ground.
For the Under 10’s, last weekend will be their last lightning premiership prior to entering the Under 11’s and competitive football.
