INSIDE THE EFL | ROUND 12

By: Troy Swainston – Chief Executive Officer – Eastern Football League

AS we head into Round 12 of the senior competition, it was pleasing to see teams across the men’s and women’s competitions record their first wins and several teams knocking off their more-fancied rivals.

Division 1 has been a very even division, currently the average winning margin sits at 26 points, with Division 2 sitting at 36 points considerably down on the prior year. With winter setting in, we expect those margins to continue to reduce across all divisions.

With seven rounds remaining, the fight for the remaining finals positions is hotting up along with the fight to avoid relegation. This will make for some very competitive and crucial games over the coming weeks for clubs with big consequences for the losing teams. With finals spots still open in all divisions, the coming weeks will produce some exciting games of football.

On Tuesday, Jubilee Park hosted the Almost Little Legends clinic with over 700 kids in attendance. The clinic was well supported by the Hawthorn Football Club players, Channel 9 celebrities and our junior interleague boys and girls assisting to run drills. Clubs across the League were well-represented and the weather played its part ensuring a successful and dry day for all.

We congratulate The Basin Junior Football Club and the South Croydon Football Club as our major winner and runner-up of the Pick my Club competition which was run in conjunction with the Hawthorn Football Club. It was great to see so many clubs participate and over 10.5k people vote for their respective club.

Our senior finals venues have been announced for season 2019 and posted on our website.  This season across the League, 33 venues will be utilised. The growth of the League has been fantastic with the addition of female football however with that growth comes the challenge of managing and fixturing the finals. There will be multiple venues used in several senior division finals; this will assist with managing the junior boys and girls, the BJS veterans and the senior men’s and Deakin University Eastern Region Women’s competitions.

Good luck to all teams on the weekend and remember to tune in to our match of the round – Coldstream v. Silvan – on 1377 SEN+ or watch the live stream via the EFL website.
