29 DAYS TO GO | Montrose junior president Matt Jones spoke to EFNL Media ahead of the 2020 season, all thanks to Yarra Valley Water & Choose Tap.
Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2019? Matt Jones: Yes we were extremely satisfied on field – we had eight of our competitive teams make finals with our 17A side saluting in the grand final.
Off-field, we continue to strive to make our club a place that our own want to be and a destination club that others want to come.
Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2020? MJ: We will have 20 – 14 boys and six girls teams; roughly 450 players.
What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season? MJ: All of our senior junior teams have started their pre-season with plenty of hype and hope for the year ahead. Our non-competitive teams are just about to start, we also have new ground in which we will play a few games each week that will lighten the load on our main ground for the years ahead so very exciting times ahead for our club.
If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season? MJ: We have high hopes for a few teams but wouldn’t like to put pressure on any one team.
Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1? MJ: We could do with a few more players in our under-10, 12 and 14 girls teams and possibly a few more in our under-12s boys team.
If any players are interested in playing for your club this season, what do they have to do? MJ: They can either contact myself at junior.president@mfc.org.au or junior.footballmanager@montrosefc.org.au
