24 DAYS TO GO | Ferntree Gully junior president Ian Connelly spoke to EFNL Media ahead of the 2020 season, all thanks to Yarra Valley Water & Choose Tap.
Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2019?
Ian Connelly: I believe we can be very satisfied with what the club achieved. Its not all about grand finals etc.We had over 400 kids participating in the game of footy every Sunday which is not only good for them to get out & be involved in sport its also great for the community & bring families together
We also had several successful social events supporting the local community and charities such as St Vincent de Paul and Chicks for charity.
We spent money on improving our facilities which again is good for the club but also benefits the community.
Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2020?
IC: Approx. 18 teams including six girls teams and two all-ability teams.
What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?
IC: The feeling is quite good, most teams are now doing pre-season training, numbers are down slightly but it is a long lead up to the first game after Easter. Volunteers are getting harder to attract this is one of the major concerns and areas which we will be concentrating on this year.
If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?
IC: It depends a little on the grading but I believe we have strong numbers in the under-14 girls and think they can do something special.
Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?
IC: Under-9 boys, under-15 boys are still looking for players along with our under-16 and under-18 girls teams.
If any players are interested in playing for your club this season, what do they have to do?
IC: Registrations are online on our website www.ftgeaglesjfc.com.au or they can email us at info@ftgeaglesjfc.com.au and we can get the right person to contact them.
