25 DAYS TO GO | Boronia junior president Kristan Wood spoke to EFNL Media ahead of the 2020 season, all thanks to Yarra Valley Water & Choose Tap.
Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2019?
Kristan Wood: There is always room for improvement but the positives from last season were:
We fielded our first under-8s ever with numbers strong enough to make two sides.
We fielded our first girls sides in 15 years.
80 per cent of our competitive age teams played in finals with our under-16 girls winning the flag (pictured above)
Building upon the strengths of being one club (junior & seniors)
Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2020?
KW: 10.
What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?
KW: The feeling is fantastic and the numbers at training have been beyond expectation for most of our coaches.
If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?
KW: My pick is the under-14 boys. They were runners up last year and with the numbers they have had on the track are looking like going one better this year. Their ‘old’ coach is pretty good as well.
Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?
KW: We have spots available in all teams. No team is at max capacity so players don’t get rested from games or spend substantial time on the bench.
If any players are interested in playing for your club this season, what do they have to do?
