#INFOCUS2020 | BAYSWATER JFC

23 DAYS TO GO | Bayswater junior president Mick Walker spoke to EFNL Media ahead of the 2020 season, all thanks to Yarra Valley Water & Choose Tap.

Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2019?

Mick Walker: Yes, absolutely. Off-field our club continues to grow within the local community, building positive relationships with families. Creating an all-inclusive environment off-field has seen a direct improvement on field, with kids being able to enjoy the game through support and comforting guidance.

Our educational sessions provided to appropriate age groups were well received and will continue to build in 2020. All Bayswater JFC families did such a tremendous job last season, which has us well set up for a big year ahead.

Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2020?

MW: 10 teams; seven boys’ and three girls’. Also, our under-18 eligible girls will join forces with another club for the season.

What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?

MW: Real excitement. Players from our older age groups have started up training now and motivation has been high. Mid to younger ages have all shown great intent to get started so there is plenty of buzz around at the moment. Our committee continues to work tirelessly to ensure the kids at our club have everything they need to get out and enjoy the game.

If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?

MW: With all our teams performing so well in 2019, including a premiership for under-12 boys, it’s impossible to pick. Seeing all our age groups come through and improve together has been a highlight of the past couple of seasons. I would expect the same pattern for 2020.

Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?

MW: Our under-12 girls could use a couple more. An established team with a fantastic, returning coach.

If any players are interested in playing for your club this season, what do they have to do?
