26 DAYS TO GO | Montrose junior president Matt Jones spoke to EFL Media ahead of the 2019 season, all thanks to Yarra Valley Water & Choose Tap.
Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2018?
Matt Jones: 2018 was a fantastic year for the Montrose Junior Football Club, with continued growth through all age groups boys and girls, and getting our 17s up and going which has been a struggle for the last few years.
On field we had eight competitive teams make finals with four teams making the grand final and two saluting which made for exciting times for the club.
Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2019?
MJ: 19 teams with approximately 300 boys and 130 girls.
What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?
MJ: All teams having great numbers on the track prior to and after Xmas so were excited with the year ahead with what’s to come in 2019. The committee has been working hard behind the scenes with a few different initiatives we’re going to try this year.
If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season, and why?
MJ: As a club we’re thrilled with our non-competitive teams in under-8s 9s and 10s having two teams in each age group and we’re sure they will develop their skills and have a lot of fun throughout the year. We have high hopes for a lot of our teams that they will have a successful year.
Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?
MJ: We are pretty good for numbers but have a few age groups that we could do with a couple of more players for our boys and girls teams.
If any players are interested in playing for your club this season, what do they have to do?
MJ: Yes, either contact Brad at junior.registrations@montrosefc.org.au or myself at junior.president@montrosefc.org.au and we will be happy to help you out with your enquiries.
