#InFocus | Scoresby FC

Following a couple of lean years the Scoresby Football Club has found its feet along with the passion to play finals once again. The Magpies will be a threat to the top flight in Division 3 with a host of names returning to the club over the past 12 months.

efnl.org.au chatted to Director of Football John Sullivan about the Magpies vision moving forward.

2017 Leaders

Chairman – Peter Castledine Senior Coach – Brent King Senior Captain – TBA What is the club’s ethos/focus in season 2017?

To improve both on and off the field. In 2016 we managed to finish off the year well however with our current list finals is a genuine target for 2017. We consolidated in 2016 and now the rebuild really starts. What has the pre-season been like so far for the club, is there any group that has really impressed (younger players, veterans, new recruits etc.)

Thus far it has been excellent. We had over 40 players at each session prior to Christmas and all our new recruits are fitting in really well. After the Christmas break we are getting over 60 players each session which is a good sign for the season ahead. We will have a great junior talent pool and don’t be surprised to see a number of our 19s players getting a taste of senior football this year

Off the field has there been any changes to the structure of the club? And how are you situated heading into the 2017 season?

The club is in a good sound position, Peter remains as chairman for the second year and we have had a few changes on the board. The current board is very aware of what happened in 2014 and it was a very dark time for the football, something we are determined never to repeat. The new board is involving as many members as willing to be involved and to take ownership of a role within the club for the betterment of the club and its members. If you could take one thing you learnt from the 2016 season to improve this year, what would it be?

Depth within the playing list was a major reason we didn’t win more games last year and this is something we feel we have addressed this season. Who are the players who you think will have a break-out season, who may have gone under the radar in the past as far the being known across the EFL community?

Our 19s played in the finals last year and we expect a few of these boys to make the transition to senior football this season.  We have a very young leadership group this year to look towards the future don’t be surprised if you see one of these boys really make their mark in 2017. Where does the club see itself in 3 years time?

Division 2. Our single focus from the playing group and the committee by working together to bring Scoresby back to where the club belongs. Finally, who in your Division do you feel is the greatest threat to your chances of success in 2017 and why?

Everyone is  a finals contender round one and until you play every team that’s when you know where you sit as a club. As a club we must focus on round one and having East Burwood at home will be a great start to the 2017 season
