GIRLS EFL | UNDER 16’S

Over 120 girls from 6 teams participated in the Eastern Football League’s very first Under 16 Girls Lightning Premiership Tournament, in the lead up to Round 1 of the Under 16 Girls Football Competition.

There was no better was to say ‘Welcome to Football Season’ than with the familiar Melbourne weather of rain and sunshine.

It looked to be a competitive day after the first round, with Norwood beating Bayswater by 3 points and Ferntree Gully taking the win over Mount Evelyn by 13 points.

Round two provided some more close games with East Ringwood Blue and East Ringwood White defeating both their opponents Mount Evelyn and Bayswater in the pouring rain by six points.

East Ringwood Blue managed to secure a win over Norwood by 16 points, with Ferntree Gully taking the chocolates over East Ringwood White by 16 points as well in the third round.

Mount Evelyn managed to scrape through against Norwood by five points in Round 4. Ferntree Gully proved they were the competition to beat, remaining undefeated after they defeated Bayswater by 33 points.

With Ferntree Gully having the bye in Round 5, East Ringwood Blue needed to secure a win over Bayswater to remain in a competitive position in the race for the title. East Ringwood White scraped through against Mount Evelyn by 1 point, and with the pressure going forward East Ringwood defeated Bayswater by 42 points.

In the last round of the day East Ringwood White defeated Norwood by 28 points.

As fairy tales would have it, Both Ferntree Gully and East Ringwood Blue had remained undefeated until Round 6 where they would play off in the decider of the Lightning Premiership tournament. In the first half East Ringwood managed to grab a slight lead. Ferntree Gully weren’t able to score in the second half, giving East Ringwood Blue the victory, and ultimately the trophy.
