The Eastern Football Netball League will introduce a Match Review System and an appointed Match Review Officer (MRO) in season 2020, with the expansion of match-day filming across all senior men’s divisions.
Following feedback from clubs through a survey late last year, clubs are looking for a more efficient and timely method of handling incidents that are clearly captured on footage. The roll-out of match-day filming and the Match Review System will create an even safer playing field for participants. We have seen a significant reduction in incidents and we expect this to continue with the expansion across all divisions.
The MRO will only review footage upon request from an official club representative or if the League has referred a matter to the MRO. The MRO will only make determinations where clear and conclusive footage is available. The MRO will have the power to hand down set penalties as per the tribunal match penalty matrix and guidelines. A player may elect to accept the set penalty or have the matter heard at the tribunal. If a player chooses to have the penalty heard at the tribunal and is once again found guilty, the tribunal will hand down a penalty which is at a minimum that which was originally offered.
Any matter that the MRO cannot make a determination on or there is inconclusive footage available will be referred to investigation.
