A first term shut down of the Geelong Football League proved the sticking point of the early game as the Eastern Football League Under 19’s side hung on in a nail-biter by two points. A missed shot seconds before the siren from Geelong’s Patrick Killen sealing the fate of the GFL as the siren sounded just seconds after the missed shot at goal.
Trailing by 21 points at the first change the Geelong Football League founds their feet as the game progressed although the silky skills of the EFL midfield proved to be too much to handle for majority of the match. Having kept the GFL at arm’s reach most of the game, a last minute flurry of goals (4.1) in the final term put hearts in the mouths of plenty of EFL supporters. The Geelong Football League had not led at any stage during the game prior to the kick from the GFL youngster and fittingly, for the EFL they were able to hold on by the narrowest of margins.
