Following a stellar display in the Under 15’s competition the Eastern Football League will host the two boys Under 15’s Grand Finals as well as the Under 15 Girls Grand Finals as part of the AFL Victoria Junior Metro Championships. The League will look to make it four in a row in Division 1 competition, while our Under 15-2 side will be looking to break a hoodoo that has seen losses in the last two years in Grand Finals. The Under 15-1 side suffered a narrow loss to Yarra Junior FL last Monday but was able to not only qualify for the Grand Final but finished on top of the Division 1 pool. Tested in their first game against South Metro JFL the Under 15-1 side were able to win well in Round 1 before a solid victory against Western Region FL all but confirmed their spot in the Grand Final.
The Under 15-2 side went through the competition undefeated in the pool stage recording a couple of large wins to assert themselves on the competition. Lead by Josh Cunningham and Hunter Greenall up forward who combined for an average of 10 goals a game The Under 15-2 side recorded wins in excess of 40 points in each encounter.
In other competition both our Under 14’s teams were only able to manage one win, beating Western Region last Saturday afternoon. The Under 13’s in their first year back were outplayed on Sunday and weren’t able to record a victory. In the Under 15 Girls, following a first up defeat the Eastern Region GFL were able to win both their Round 2 and Round 3 match-ups against Yarra JFL recording a big win on Saturday to finish second in Division 2.
The Eastern Football League will host South Metro JFL in both the Under 15-1 and Under 15-2 Grand Finals on Saturday June 25.
