In Premier Division, Vermont defeated South Croydon by 12 points in a tight affair at Cheong Park. The Dogs raced out of the blocks early with three goals to one in the opening term, before the Eagles hit back in the second with four goals to one. The sides rallied in the third with Vermont holding an eight-point advantage at the final change before holding the Dogs at bay in the final term.
Meanwhile, Balwyn made a statement with a big win over Norwood, led by Cam Manuel with three majors.
In Division 1, East Ringwood produced one of the upsets of the season, downing ladder-leader Doncaster East by 10 points. The Roos held strong all day to lead at all changes, including by 18 at the final change. Osborne and Sharpe each finished with two goals for the Roos, while Renton and Cerni finished among the best afield. At Walker Reserve, Wantirna South recorded its second-consecutive victory, defeating Park Orchards by 32 points.
In keeping with the theme of upsets, Scoresby also produced one of the upsets of 2019 in Division 2, holding on by two points to defeat a finals-bound Templestowe outfit. The Magpies stormed home in the final term, kicking four goals to two after trailing by 10 points at three-quarter time. Anderson and Paravicini each booted two majors for Scoresby, while the ever-green Marc Williams and Adam Bronsgeest each finished among the best. Meanwhile, Ringwood defeated ladder-leader Mitcham by 47 points at Jubilee Park, off the back of six goals to Mitch Farmer.
Division 3 action saw South Belgrave post a victory over a gallant Waverley Blues outfit to keep its unbeaten run alive in season 2019, while Warrandyte registered a 32-point win over the Whitehorse Pioneers, off the back of two goals each to Johnston, Brooking and Dunn.
Division 4 saw Surrey Park overcome a slow start to overcome Forest Hill in convincing fashion, Silvan comfortably accounted for Kilsyth, Coldstream enjoyed a percentage-boosting win over Croydon North-MLOC to all but sew up the double chance in the finals, and ladder-leader East Burwood proved too strong for Nunawading.
