Another week, another round of Netball with many close games and personal bests as we got Round Seven out of the way
Division 1:
East Burwood Rams 53 def Heathmont 51
A very close affair between these two sides on Friday night. The Rams ended the first quarter with a one-goal lead but couldn’t increase that margin, ending halftime at an equal 26-goal draw. By the end of the third quarter the Jets took over in the goal circle scoring 16 goals to the Rams 12, giving them a four-goal lead. Although the game looked like the jets were going to walk away with the win, the Rams didn’t let them get too comfortable and took back the lead scoring 15 goals in the last quarter, ending up victorious.
Both Danika Corless and Nicole Wong worked remarkably well in the goal circle with both girls registering season high scores of 30 and 23 goals.
Taylah Barr scored 28 goals for the Jets.

Division 2:
The Basin 36 def Kilsyth 34
The Basin displayed a pulled off a massive turnaround in the last quarter on Friday night. The Cougars were in the lead all throughout the game with both teams keeping each other on the edge of their toes. Heading into the final quarter the Kodiaks were down by three goals but proved their defence and attack to be too good, outscoring their opponent 11-6 and finishing with a two-goal win.
Mandy Simpson played her best game yet scoring equal to Melissa Beardsworth of 18 goals each.
Another personal best this season with Courtney Canning scoring 16 goals assisted by Alyssa Hawkins and Alanna Lennie scoring 13 and 5 for the cougars.

Division 3:
Mulgrave 31 def Vermont 30
A match that could have gone either way started off tight as both teams ended the first quarter level on eight goals apiece. From there on out, the match went back and forward with both teams changing continuously leads. By the end of halftime, Mulgrave was in the lead by three goals but soon lost their lead by five goals at the end of the third quarter. Only one goal separated the two teams at fulltime as Mulgrave took back the lead from Vermont, running out the winners.
Rebecca Lawson scored 20 goals for Mulgrave assisted by Jessica Beardsworth’s 11.
Elise Norman scored 19 goals making it her highest scored game this season with help from Georgia Fuller and Grace Norden scoring nine and two of their own.

Division 4:
Montrose 35 def Mulgrave 32
Another close game on Friday night from Montrose and Mulgrave as both teams battled it out on the courts. Despite sitting at opposite ends of the ladder it was a very good effort from Mulgrave, nearly taking home their first win for the season. The first quarter ended at a six-goals apiece, but it was Mulgrave that led by one goal at the end of the second and third term. Getting too caught up by the slight advantage, Mulgrave couldn’t hold their lead, letting Montrose get ahead and score 12 goals to their eight in the final quarter.
Stephanie Verhoef scored an exceptional 25 goals for Montrose with assistance from Michelle Inglese scoring 10 of her own.
Mulgrave are set to play against Ferntree Gully next week with both teams yet to bag a win for the season.

Vermont 39 def Ringwood 24
Yet to lose a game, the undefeated Vermont were never in danger on Friday night. Although the game started off incredibly close, the Eagles were quick to prove who belongs on the top of the ladder. By the end of half time both teams were neck and neck at 17 goals each. However, the Vermont defence proved to be too strong for the Redbacks as they only scored a total of seven goals after halftime to Vermont’s 22.
Kellie Phillips never fails to shine in the goal circle, scoring 33 goals on Friday night with assistance from Stephanie Issa and Jessica Scida scoring five and one. Phillips currently holds the highest goals scored in her division with a total of 197 goals after 7 games.

Division 6:
Boronia 40 def Montrose 19
Boronia enjoyed a comfortable win against Montrose on Friday night with a 21-goal victory. Boronia’s defence proved too strong for Montrose as they struggled to get into the goal circle. Meanwhile Ebony Williams and Celeste Smith dominated in the goal circle scoring 24 and 16 goals for Boronia, making them the winners.
Amazing effort from Samantha Prosenak and Caitlin Conway scoring 13 and 6 goals for Montrose.

Division 7:
Heathmont 19 drew Montrose 19
A very close game between 1st and 2nd place Heathmont and Montrose as they battled it out on the courts to show who’s better. However, after the game it is still undetermined who is greater as both teams came out with an equal 19-goal draw and sit at a 5-1-1 record.
Montrose storm ended the first quarter with a one-goal lead but soon were no match for Heathmont’s defence as they only scored two goals to Heathmont’s eight by halftime. At the end of the third quarter Heathmont were able to keep the lead but failed to get over the line, ending the game at a draw.
Skylar Browne, Olivia Lesiputty, Carly Ervine and Shania Killick all got on the scoresheet for Heathmont, while Kristen Mallia, Annabel Cookson and Stacey Pearson shot 11, five and three for Montrose.

Division 8:
The Basin 33 def Montrose 26
Another close game on Friday night with The Basin Grizzlies in the lead by only three goals at the end of the first quarter and four by halftime. However, Montrose caught up by the end of the third quarter scoring nine goals to the Grizzlies six, making Montrose only one goal behind. The Grizzlies were determined for the win and showed no mercy to Montrose scoring 11 goals to Montrose’s five making the Grizzlies the winners by seven goals.
Elly Turcinovic scored the most goals on court contributing 20 to the Grizzlies, while Kate Watson assisted with 13 of her own.
Tara Williams, Casey Hahn and Nicole Windley worked great as a team in the goal circle scoring 12, 8 and 6 goals but it wasn’t enough to get Montrose the win.
