BENDIGO BANK NETBALL REVIEW

By Mitch Turner

The EFNL netball competition continued on Friday Night, with the Parker Cup seeing record numbers floating around the H.E.Parker venue as well as healthy showings at all other centres.

Premier Division

Boronia 47 d Ferntree Gully 19

It was a dominant performance from Boronia last Friday. They had the edge right from the outset; however, a 16 goal second quarter was the primary reason behind their large margin of victory over the Eagles.

Stacey Woodrow starred in the attacking goal circle with 36 goals, filling the hole left by last week’s star Shae Gee.

Division 1

East Ringwood 44 d Scoresby 30

East Ringwood and Scoresby were almost inseparable for the first half of their encounter last week. The Roos eventually pulled away thanks to a 15-7 third quarter, and never looked back.

Emily Salmon was a force for East Ringwood with 30 goals, while Casey Morgan added 23 for the Magpies, with both ladies now well entrenched in the top three goal shooters in the division.

Division 2

Kilsyth 13 d Lilydale 12

It was a low scoring but entertaining affair between these two sides that see-sawed all night long. There was nothing in it for the entire first half, as the two teams entered the third quarter locked at 7-all. Kilsyth managed to create a 1-point advantage in the third quarter, which ultimately proved the difference between the two sides in the closest match across the division.

Halle Hupfeld was key up forward, contributing 21 goals to her team’s final tally.

Division 4

Heathmont just barely came out with a win on the weekend after a nail-biting match with another competition newcomer Silvan. The Jets went into halftime 7 points behind the pace, however a huge third quarter where they outscored the Cats 11-3 put them back in front, and they managed to hang on to their lead until the final siren.

Paige Lesiputty (Heathmont) and Taylah Ellis (Silvan) top scored for their respective sides with 15 goals each.
