2014 EFL Pre-Season Wiki | Tomorrow: Knox
SCORESBY Junior Football Club president Geoff Lake speaks to Alysia Thomas-Sam as his club prepares for the 2014 season.
Alysia Thomas-Sam: Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2013?
Geoff: Our Club had a very successful year in 2013. We had our Under 11’s and Woman’s team win the premierships. We also had both our Youth girls teams and Under 14 teams make the finals. Off the field we had terrific success with our pre-season development clinics and in winning some major grants that will benefit our club in the future.
Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2014?
We have four teams playing in the EFL this year, with the possibility of an Under 12 girls team also being established.
What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?
Our players have been very enthusiastic and keen to get out and play again. The general feeling around the club has been upbeat and we look forward to a very successful season.
If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?
We have very strong teams in all age groups. Our Under 15’s have certainly put in the hard yards over the last few seasons and I would love to see them take out the Premiership. Our Under 14’s team has had a great pre-season and have come on leaps and bounds in terms of skill and development. I look forward to following their success this year. Our Under 12’s are a solid team with proven skill and it would be great to see them win back to back premierships. Our Under 11’s team is playing their first year of competitive football are also showing signs of determination and have their eyes set on the finals.
Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?
We are still looking for players in our Under 11’s age group. While we are able to field a team we are still a little light on and are keen to speak to any new players who would like to play footy.
If any players are interested in playing for Scoresby Junior Football Club this season, what do they have to do?
