46 DAYS – NORWOOD JUNIORS

2014 EFL Pre-Season Wiki | Tomorrow: Nunawading

NORWOOD Junior Football Club Head of Registration Paul Cunningham speaks to Dan Campbell as his club prepares for the 2014 season.

Dan Campbell: Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2013?

Paul Cunningham: In terms of last year, we’re reasonably satisfied. We had quite a few sides in the finals. It was certainly a solid year, our numbers were good and it was great.

Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2014?

Probably about 13 sides.

What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?

A lot of the boys are really looking forward to the year. We’ve already started pre-season training and looking forward to another solid year.

We’ve got another registration day coming up on the 23rd of February. We’re combining it with a seniors day in remembrance of one of our senior players, Dale May, who passed away last year. So we’re having a family fun day down at the club to raise money for that as well. There will be cricket in the afternoon too – footy club versus cricket club!

If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?

We probably have a 17’s side and a 13’s side playing off in a Grand Final this year I think.

Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?

It starts from the bottom, so we’re still looking at Under 8’s, 9’s and 10’s. That’s where the club starts from, so if you can get a few numbers in at a young age group. It certainly extends through to future years, so they’re the age groups that we continually focus on.

If any players are interested in playing for Norwood Junior Football Club this season, what do they have to do?

Just give me [Paul Cunningham] a call on 0404 448 409 or email me at norwoodregos@bigpond.com. We’re certainly hoping to help the kids out. Get them down to the club and they’ll enjoy the atmosphere.
