Adrian Goldsmith President – Glen Waverley Rovers Junior Football Club
Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2014?
Reasonably. Four teams in finals, one runner up, two U10 Lightning Premierships on field.
Off field we had the inaugural Rockin’ the Reserve Festival, great social events and a fantastic Family Day at season’s end.
Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2015? It’s looking like 10 teams from U8 to U17 with one less team at U14 and U17 levels compared to last year. We’ve had an unprecedented number of departures at U17, U15 and U14 levels which has given the committee and football department plenty to think about.
What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?
At the lower age groups it’s been all systems go. We’ve capped out in several teams but are still welcoming new and returning players in many age groups. Preparations for Rockin’ the Reserve 2015 on Saturday 28 March at Mulgrave Reserve are also well underway and we’re looking to double the crowd from last year – see rockinthereserve.com
If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?
I’ll take a premiership from wherever it cones but both our U13 teams, our U12s and both U11 teams are looking good at this stage. The U11 teams both won lightning premierships in 2014 so will be looking forward to their first year if competitive footy.
Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?
We are still looking for some U9 and U13 players particularly as well as 14s and 15s.
