40 DAYS – GLEN WAVERLEY ROVERS JUNIORS

2014 EFL Pre-Season Wiki | Tomorrow: Glen Waverley Hawks

GLEN Waverley Rovers Junior Football Club president Adrian Goldsmith speaks to Ben Waterworth as his club prepares for the 2014 season.

Ben Waterworth: Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2013?

Adrian Goldsmith: We had some really good on-field success. We won one premiership [in the Under 11C’s], had three teams make a prelim and another make it to the finals. So to have five out of our eight sides make the finals was very pleasing.

Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2014?

We’re looking at 12 at the moment. The composition of those sides looks slightly different compared to previous years. We’ll have two Under 17’s side. The top side will be coached EFL 300-Game Life Member John O’Brien, who’s been Assistant Coach at Knox recently.

What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?

It’s been really good. It’s been a nice and slow, steady build-up. We’re looking like reaching the player caps in all age groups.

If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?

I gave the kiss of death to a few teams last year! Our Under 15’s have made finals the last couple of years and have got an even chance this year. I would also say our up and coming Under 11’s, who will start their competitive journey this year. They’ve got a good squad and have been very successful in Lightning Premierships in the past.

Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?

We need a few more Under 17’s and Under 12’s. A couple more Under 9’s would be nice too.

If any players are interested in playing for Rovers this season, what do they have to do?

Give me [Adrian Goldsmith] a call on 0419 571 688.
