35 DAYS – WAVERLEY BLUES JUNIORS

2014 EFL Pre-Season Wiki | Tomorrow: Park Orchards

WAVERLEY Blues Junior Football Club president Anthony Daffey speaks to Ben Waterworth as his club prepares for the 2014 season.

Ben Waterworth: Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2013?

We were in both aspects. While we didn’t snag any premierships, it’s not what we’re all about. We had 260 kids playing footy and we’re hoping to get around the same amount this year. That’s the key for us then the premierships come later.

Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2014?

Around 11 or 12.

What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?

We’ve had a few new kids come down, mainly around the bottom age groups, but also some of the older age groups. It’s always nice to welcome some fresh blood. We’ve also had a few coaches come on board, so it’s nice to get a few new people taking roles on and looking after the kids.

If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?

Probably the Under 12’s and Under 17’s – I’ll put a bit of pressure on them! I’m also looking forward to seeing how the Under 13’s go. They have gone up to A-grade this year, which will be interesting.

Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?

We’re mostly going okay, but we’ve still got room in some sides, probably more Under 11’s, 12’s and 15’s.

If any players are interested in playing for the Waverley Blues Junior Football Club this season, what do they have to do?
