29 DAYS TO GO – MULGRAVE

BECOMING THE HUNTED

By Dyson Baker (@TheFirstBounce)

Whilst it may have been the quarter of the season that pushed the Lions into finals contention, the Lions always seemed to have the rub of the green when it came to close games.

The Lions won five games last season by under 15 points and for the most part tended to have the legs late if they were in striking distance at the final change.

That was no more evident than when Mulgrave came from five goals down at ¾ Time to snatch victory against Bayswater in Round 18. Kicking 11 goals to one in the final term the Lions were sensational, winning in the end by 35 points, their second highest winning margin of the regular season.

This season offers a new challenge for Ryan James’ men who look to be in the top flight of clubs in Division 2.

Last season they former part of the chasing pack with the likes of Mooroolbark, Doncaster and Doncaster East, looking for the final spots inside the four. This season the expectation will be finals, without question.

The Lions’ incoming transfers are Young…

So far the club hasn’t lodged anyone born before the 90’s which in itself is a positive. Mulgrave have a history of developing kids into key senior players.

Mulgrave have positioned themselves now as the “next frontier” somewhat of a force to be reckoned with as these kids gain age and experience in senior football.

For the first time in three years Mulgrave will see daylight in Round 1, they will take on the Waverley Blues at Mt Waverley Reserve.
