HEATHMONT Junior Football Club president Andrew Strachan chats to Nick Brown as his club prepares for the 2014 season.
Nick Brown: Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2013?
Yes we were satisfied. We had four of our six (competitive) teams play finals and whilst we did win any, we were reasonably successful.
Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2014?
We will field 13 teams from Under 8’s to Under 17’s and we will have a couple of doubles in some age groups.
What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?
Pretty positive, it’s been pretty good. We have had a number of new players and the younger ones are stepping it up also. And we have an entire new committee as well.
If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?
Probably the Under 17A side. They have just come up from the Under 15’s and they have plenty of talent and a really good coach in Justin O’Dwyer.
Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?
We have enough players to field all the teams, but we are happy to have extras. It would probably be our Under 15’s and our second Under 13 side.
If any players are interested in playing for the Heathmont Junior Football Club this season, what do they have to do?
If they just get in contact with myself [Andrew Strachan] on 0407 530 363. We are more than happy to have new players.
