ON THE UP, AND UP
“Choose Tap” Countdown | Surrey Park Football Club
By Peter Tseros
An improved season is what new Surrey Park coach Brett Davidson wants to achieve.
After taking a season off from senior coaching and spending 2014 coaching Junior Rep. Football, he is now ready and eager to start the 2015 season with Surrey. Davidson feels as though the club has been somewhat rejuvenated, the playing group has worked hard over the off-season.
“What we have really worked on is our skills, making sure they are up to what is expected of a really formidable side” said Davidson.
With the team last year only managing the four wins, Davidson expects the side to make a greater impact, stating
“We have to win more then four games and if we can double it to eight, then it will be a fantastic season “It would mean that the club will be right in the hunt come finals time and that’s what all players and coaches down at Surrey are striving for” Davidson said.
Although for now Davidson wants to look at the first half of the season, and get some wins on the board early to release pressure and bring some confidence entering the second half of the year
“Last year I think we lost our first five, we can’t afford to do that this year” Davidson stated.
For now though the club has two practice matches coming up where Davidson hopes his side, can deliver what they have put into practice at training during games.
Luckily for Davidson’s team they are entering the matches so far with no major injuries, which will provide The Panthers with the best chance come game day.
In addition to the injury free side, Davidson feels the team has a large crop of young talent, which will be pushing for senior selection this season “The young guys who were blooded last year into senior footy have been really impressive” He stated.
Even with their improved young players, Surrey has bolstered their list, recruiting players from other competitions to help make the charge for finals.
Though the side hasn’t just focused on there on field improvements, off field Surrey Park has had their season launch at Box Hill Golf Club, both sponsorship and membership were on the rise.
“One of the reason I think we could be successful is not only the on field but off field is very positive” Davidson added. With that Davidson’s side are eager to start the season and really make a push for what its all about come the end of the year.
