2014 EFL Pre-Season Wiki | Tomorrow: The Basin
Kilsyth Junior Football Club President Danny Lamb sat down with Andrew Wiles as his club prepares for the 2014 season.
Andrew Wiles: Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2013?
Danny Lamb: We were very happy with the efforts of all our volunteers, parents and especially our kids both on and off the field in 2013. On field we were a little unlucky to just miss out on finals in the Under 11’s and for the second year our Under 12 group played in two finals games. More importantly, I feel that our club continued to grow into a place where our kids can come and participate in our great game in a fun, friendly, family environment.
At the Kilsyth Junior Football Club, this is our priority. We all know that the kids love to win, but win lose or draw, it’s about having fun, participating and improving.
Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2014?
In 2014, we will be fielding teams in the Under 8’s, 9’s, 10’s, 11’s, 12’s, 13’s and 15’s.
What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?
Our pre-season is now in full swing, with our Under 8’s, 9’s and 10’s starting in the last week. The feeling around the club has been that of excitement and anticipation. Lots of kids are very keen to hear that first siren and lots of kids are working very hard to get ready for the season ahead.
If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?
Tough question! I would have to go with the Under 13’s. They are a very solid group of kids. This is their fifth year together without too many changes to their list. Like all of our sides, there is a range of abilities. But as a group their commitment, effort and sense of mateship is fantastic.
Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?
Unfortunately the answer is yes. In fact all of our sides could do with a few more kids, especially our 10’s, 12’s and 15’s.
If any players are interested in playing for the Kilsyth Junior Football Club this season, what do they have to do?
If anyone is interested in joining or if you would like to find out a little more about the club, I [Danny Lamb], would love to hear from you on 0419 348 669.
I believe the hardest thing to do is to get kids to our club. But once there, I feel we have very healthy junior club that kids and families really enjoy and want to be a part of for a long time.
