13 DAYS – BORONIA JUNIORS

2014 EFL Pre-Season Wiki | Tomorrow: Mooroolbark

BORONIA Junior Football Club president Cam Mellis speaks to Victoria Halkias as his club prepares for the 2014 season.

Victoria Halkias: Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2013?

Cam Mellis: Definitely! I suppose our expectations at the start of the year were just to stabilise our teams in the divisions they were in and mid-year we were going pretty well. Then we ended up with three teams in the Grand Final and the Under 15’s B-team winning the Grand Final was just a bonus.

Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2014?

Ten teams. Two teams in Under 12’s and Under 17’s and one in every other group.

What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?

Really upbeat! We’ve got two teams in A-grade now. When I came on board four years ago that was my goal – to get a few of the teams playing A-grade. We’ve done that. Everyone is upbeat and ready to go.

If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?

I’d say my Under 13 boys. They’ve been in the finals two years prior. They got knocked out of the preliminary final in the Under 12’s and made the semis last year. We’ve picked up a few handy recruits that have come to the club.

Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?

Definitely Under 11’s. Any babies, boys or girls, born in 2003 we need them! Come here!

If any players are interested in playing for Boronia Junior Football Club this season, what do they have to do?

Jump straight on the phone and give me [Cam Mellis] a buzz on my mobile on 0438 768 142. I’ll steer the parents or the child in the right direction.
