Season Postponement – Monday, March 23rd
Following yesterday’s announcement by the AFL to suspend the 2020 season indefinitely, the Eastern Football Netball League, Northern Football Netball League, Southern Football Netball League, Western Region Football League & the Victorian Amateur Football Association have collectively decided to postpone their respective seasons until May 31.
The Senior Community Leagues were united in their support of the AFL decision. The health and wellbeing of our players, coaches, umpires, volunteers and associated stakeholders remains our priority and we are committed to ensuring the long-term sustainability of all clubs.
We urge all associated with our respective communities to heed the advice and regulations that have been put in place by the State Government. All club training, events, ground and light usage remains suspended until further notice.
A further update will be provided following the Metropolitan League CEO’s meeting with AFL Victoria and our own EFNL Board meeting scheduled for Tuesday 14th April 2020.
Update Tuesday March, 17
Following a meeting of the Six Senior Metropolitan Community Leagues today, including the Essendon District FL, Eastern FNL, Northern FNL, Southern FNL, VAFA and Western Region FL, please refer to the following statement;
The decision has been made to manage the COVID-19 issue for community football, netball and umpiring with a united, consistent and staged approach.
A collective decision has been made to postpone all Community Senior and Junior football and Netball competitions until the weekend of Saturday, May 2, 2020.
All Leagues have agreed to suspend practice matches and training effective immediately.
The Leagues will re-convene on Tuesday, April 14 to review and/or confirm this commencement date, subject to the status of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This decision has been reached with consideration to consistency, League and Club Sustainability and the Health and Welfare of our players, officials, volunteers, spectator and umpires.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding with this matter.
The EFNL Board will formally meet Wednesday to discuss and approve the plan considering all the information available.
