On Saturday 10th February 2024 the Scoresby FNC Vets created history, venturing over to Indonesia to take on the Bali Geckos in the inaugural clash between the two clubs.
The game was the brainchild of former Scoresby player Stuart McAlpine who is now living in Indonesia and playing with the Geckos. The game was live-streamed and commentated on Facebook, with a Best on Ground award and Play of the Day sponsored.
A total of 15 Scoresby Vets players made the trip and the feeling is this will become an annual pilgrimage for the club in future years.
Scoresby FNC Vets Football Operations, Paul Giannopoulos was thrilled with the international opportunity for the club.
“It was a great day for the club, we are working extremely hard towards having our own stand-alone Scoresby FNC Vets team in 2024, so to have 15 players head to Bali in February is a great starting point,” Giannopoulos said.
“It’s a really exciting time for the entire club in 2024 with the return of women’s netball and potentially fielding of the club’s Under 19s as well and the senior club looking to challenge for their first senior flag since 2006.”
The game was played in great spirits with the younger Bali Geckos outfit feeling much more comfortable in the hot and humid conditions running out 47-point eventual winners.
Bali Geckos 17-11-113 def. Scoresby Magpies 10-6-66.
Scoresby’s Christopher Adolph was voted the Man of the Match which was awarded by former Essendon Premiership player Rick Olarenshaw.
