Former Eastern Football Netball League President and competition Life Member Rob Peak recently added another accolade to his long list, with the East Burwood and now Donvale man awarded an Order of Australia Medal for his services to Australian Rules Football and Sports Administration last Monday.

Peak has given 40 years of service to sport across his life, whether that be through volunteer work and alike.

From 1980 to 1983 Peak was the Vice President and Treasurer of Blackburn South Junior Football Club and he also spent some time with North Kew FC.

He served for three years as East Burwood’s Vice President and Treasurer from 1989 and joined the Eastern Football League committee in 1993.

In 1994 he stepped up into the position of Vice President before becoming President in 1995, the same year he joined the Victorian Metropolitan Football League (VMFL) committee. His time with the VMFL finished in 2000 and his time as EFL President finished two years later in 2002. During that period Rob had also spent time as the Treasurer of the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron.

Rob returned to East Burwood to help the club in its time of need, serving the dual roles of President and Treasurer from 2014 to 2017. In 2014 he also began working with Sports Inclusion Australia as their Finance Director, he also volunteered at the Brisbane edition of the Global Games in 2019.

Rob has returned to local football once again in recent times, becoming the Treasurer of the Donvale Football Netball Club- where his daughter plays-, showing his insatiable thirst for helping community sport.

The East Burwood Football Netball Club recently congratulated Rob on their Facebook page and cited not only his incredible administrative work, but his willingness to get his hands dirty.

“Congratulations to Rob Peak who was today awarded an Order of Australia Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.”

“His award citation read ‘For service to Australian Rules Football and Sports Administration’.”

“This is truly deserved recognition for more that 40 years of service and volunteer work with a large number of sporting bodies.”

“As a testament to his willingness to roll up his sleeves and get the job done, he has on many occasions spent the afternoon in the beer both flipping burgers.”
