OFFICIAL STATEMENT: BERWICK FOOTBALL CLUB

The Eastern Football Netball League (EFNL) is pleased to confirm a majority vote for the admission of the Berwick Football Club into the competition from season 2021.

The vote was put to all clubs on Wednesday night at the League’s Annual General Meeting where an overwhelming majority voted ‘yes’ to the move, pending transfer approval from AFL Outer East and ratification by AFL Victoria in 2020.

Berwick, which currently competes in the AFL Outer East competition, would play in the EFNL’s Premier Division competition from its inception.

EFNL Chief Executive Officer Troy Swainston said the League was pleased with the result of Wednesday night’s vote for Berwick as its 46th senior club from season 2021.

“It’s just the first step in the process, but we are very happy that our existing clubs have voted in favour of the Berwick Football Club becoming a senior affiliated member of the League,” Swainston said.

The addition of Berwick in 2021 would provide the League with 10-team competitions in the Premier, Division 1 and Division 2 competitions. Promotion and relegation would apply in some but not all divisions at the end of season 2020.
